Amaral. Independent. Solid. Messengers. Ruthless Rhythm Rock. Pride. Fearless. Sensitive and conscious.
My reflection of them sitting on the couch in Electric Ladyland Studios on Bleecker Street in the West Village of New York City. Flashing back what an honor it was to sit in that studio with those two artists and be a fly with a camera on the wall.
The Rabbit as a symbol can be the earth with philosophy and a value system of sensitivity. It lives partially on the ground knowing how to get around in the dark in tunnels and unmarked territory. Developed trust in the inner light it does not need an outside source to illuminate its way, collective energy maintains the path. They teach us you are what you perceive yourself to be. The Lion on the other hand is humility and compassion with its vices being pride and self-centeredness sleeping with his eyes open. Its cultural depictions have been adopted on all continents.
Majestic and powerful that protect humans from evil spirits in the Chinese culture, in Iran a symbol of royalty and in Africa usually the king of the jungle. It was a spontaneous act when we bought these masks that day at a shop next door to the studio, just seemed like a good idea. Flashback to the lion and the bunny in Amaral.
