One more clip from off-season sessions with @bell.josh19 of the @pittsburghpirates Josh spent a few weeks with me again this year but had an extra focus within our sessions of how he can continue the work without me. The sessions where we hit partner work hard were fun and yielded good results but the reality is most of Josh’s training time is spent many states away. We spent the last of our time together going over homework positions for all the goals we set out from the most-recent assessment. I reminded Josh of the thought process we all adopted from @drandreospina that will produce progression while mitigating injury: 1️⃣Determine physical capacities. 2️⃣Program training within those capacities. 3️⃣Program additional work to expand capacities where desired/needed. 4️⃣Repeat. I wanted to end this by saying good luck to Josh as he enters Spring training and then the season but the reality is that Josh doesn’t work on luck. He is one of the hardest working and most passionate athletes I’ve had the chance to work with. Stay the course, Josh. FRS ✖️ Team Training = 🦾🦾 #Repost @functionalrangeconditioning ・・・ Kinstretch Instructor & FRCms @pcstrength #Fun#FunctionalRangeSystems⁣ ・・・⁣ ⁣ I remember @drandreospina saying that FRC is not specifically designed for teams, however the training concepts are exactly what teams need. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Then, when I took @kinstretch with @hunterfitness , @mosesbernard and @coachzachdeck, they emphasized that in groups, logistics always win, and your priorities always show up in your programming. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ That’s why the biggest shift in my programming the past few years includes joint specific strength training. How can I do linear based strength work to develop lower body strength and power, without first establishing that my athletes have a functioning hip joint?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Here’s a good example of how you can do both:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 2a. Barbell Split Squat 3x5, 3310⁣⁣ 2b. Supine Hip IR Passive Range Lift Off (PRLO) 3x3x5sec. each⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ We split squat as a team, then partner up to make sure we emphasize proper technique to train the most fundamental hip movement (internal rotation). ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ This training might not appear basic, but it’s about as rudimentary as we can get when developing young athletes. Kinstretch. Bike. Climb. Repeat. (And travel, a lot.) That’s kinda been my schedule lately. And it was, well, exactly my schedule today: Morning clients followed by @kinstretch with @coach_christinamarie Lunch Post lunch zone 2 beach bike ride (because SoCal, duh) Then climbing gym after some emails. Tonight I nailed this v5 and THEN I actually completed my project which I’ve beeen working on for MONTHS (cannot confirm if this is true but that’s what it feels like) but I forgot to film it so @virtue.fit says it doesn’t count. @hiiicattt and @dianasullivanpham are my witnesses though.
