This one’s for all the rebels out there who dare to dream - the artists, makers and doers - who don’t take no for an answer and forge on despite the challenges thrown at them. A big thank you to the wonderful team at @prestigemalaysia for featuring me on your July issue - truly honoured! ❤️ Link on bio. 💫

In Shunde 顺德,a district of Foshan, Guangzhou, to check out a stainless steel fabricator for my upcoming project. Shunde is known for its food, but I’ve lost my appetite after seeing snakes in cages in almost every seafood restaurant (warning: 4th slide). 😨😵

7/15 of #FutureRelics. Before you read my description below, what do you see? . . . Do you see a female figure climbing up a vine? She’s climbing up, attempting to break through the thick bamboo forest ceiling above her. This piece is titled, “Breaking the Bamboo Ceiling”. This term refers to the challenges faced by people of Asian descent as they climb up the ladders of business and society. Look up Jane Hyun’s book of the same title to read up more about this. . . . I hope this series has been inspiring to you! Special thanks to my A-team @chauxhien @alveralda @ejmemento for working on these species with me. . “Future Relics” is series of 15 pieces that examines the role of an (Southeast) Asian woman in the 21st century, as portrayed on traditional Chinese vases with a contemporary twist.

6/15 of #futurerelics. Before reading my description below, what do you see? . . . This one’s dedicated to anyone who’s been affected by breast cancer - directly or indirectly. The “Hulu” or double gourd vase resembles the female figure, and in this piece - the vase with a single breast symbolises a breast cancer survivor. . . Special thanks to my A-Team for working with me on this: @alveralda @chauxhien @ejmemento. “Future Relics” is series of 15 pieces that examines the role of an (Southeast) Asian woman in the 21st century, as portrayed on traditional Chinese vases with a contemporary twist.

5/15 of my series, #FutureRelics. Without reading my description below, how would you interpret this piece? . [edit: I’ve tagged all “stars” I had in mind while making this piece, but really, it’s up to your interpretation!] Eight stars with surnames of Asian actresses who have made a mark in Hollywood are featured on this piece - it’s up to you to decide who these actresses are based on how their roles in the industry has been to you (“Liu” - Lucy Liu? Mulan’s Liu Yifei?). It’s so cool seeing more of these surnames in showbiz - definitely an exciting time! 🤩😭 Who do you see? . The symbols on the top refer to the 5 categories of stars - Motion Pictures, Television, Recording, Radio, and Live Performance. It’s been very encouraging seeing more Asians cast in diverse roles, seeing more creators embracing their heritage and being in charge of their own content. This piece celebrates that. . Oh yes, and I chose a yellow vase too because (East) Asians apparently have yellow skin. Eight is a lucky number for the Chinese too 😂💛 . “Future Relics” is series of 15 pieces that examines the role of an (Southeast) Asian woman in the 21st century, as portrayed on traditional Chinese vases with a contemporary twist. White and blue duck eggs were used for this.
