Opening days in the dive are already a season highlight! ⛷ Conditions were choppy wind slab with chalky debris in the lower... but it didn’t matter! It was all smiles with the crew today 🏂 Delirium Dive📍Sunshine Village

C H A N G E I never tire of watching the weather... Ominous storm clouds rolling in, sunlight ripping through, winds swirling particles of ice and snow up into the atmosphere. The way in which a vista can differ from one moment to the next and create a totally contrasting mood will always continue to captive my creative side! 📸 Today was one of those particular days at Sunshine Village 🏔 Here’s @vinceomara taking it all in 😍 Good to see you again buddy, it’s been too long! 👌🏽

Misty Moods - Castle Mountain 🏔 I was quite shocked that even with temperatures hitting below -30°c this week, the Bow River still hasn’t fully frozen! With a fresh layer of snow we didn’t get the frost flowers we were looking for but @bry.peters and I did get some nice contrast with the pebbles on the riverbed. Amazing how scenes can change from one day to the next 📸

As the polar vortex loosens it’s grip on Banff National Park, it’s time to get out and enjoy that blower powder again! 🏂 Here’s @ad_venture_bam grinning from ear to ear as she rips through Cleavage Glades on Goats Eye at Sunshine Village 😁 @sunshinevillage @skibig3 @powderchasers @powdermagazine @snowboardermag @snowboardmag @weathernetwork

Sequoia’s - it’s hard to fathom that these huge trees grow from such a tiny cone - about the size of a cherry! 🌳 Wandering the trails of Mariposa Grove makes you feel incredibly small! 🚶🏼‍♂️

Time For Change ⏰ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve been shooting with the same gear now for the past couple of years and been super happy with the results. The versatility of Nikon’s 28-300mm super zoom has been so useful, allowing me to have one lens that does it all. It’s been perfect for long backpacking trips to ski photography; snapping a wide angle landscape shot to a close up of wildlife. The ability to get these shots without having to change lenses is incredible! 📸 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There’s a BUT though... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is MY favourite shot I took in 2019. I took it whilst hiking 4 mile trail in Yosemite this November. After a long slog up to Glacier point from the valley floor and lunch with an incredible view of Half Dome and the John Muir Wilderness, we descended back down the trail from whence we came 🥾 as we turned the corner to emerge from the old growth forests of the upper trail, the view down the valley looking West was picture perfect. There’s no wonder Ansel Adams found so much joy here! Anyway... as the light began to pour over the Cathedral Spires, beams sifted through the fissures giving an almost holy atmosphere to the scene. Best of all, a small patch of Aspen’s in the valley illuminated below, like a spot light from a chopper! 🚁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I grabbed my camera and dialled in the settings as best I could to control the harsh contrast of light between highlights and shadows. Being on a day hike, I didn’t bring a tripod or filters, leaving me to shoot this handheld at 300mm 👋🏽 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is the result. A scene that for me, had so much potential. A brief moment that required everything to be prepared and perfect to gain an image worthy of the scene. Unfortunately, it was to be. The Nikon’s f/5.6 at 300mm just wasn’t enough to capture the detail I’d hoped for, leaving in its place a somewhat textured shadows. For once my trusty 28-300mm didn’t quite cut it ☹️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This confirmed for me something that I’d toyed with the idea of for a while now... it’s time to update the quiver! I’ll be introducing my Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 G2 to the backpack now, in the hopes for more atmospheric conditions just like this 😍 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Alas... that light though 😱
